Double Your Impact This GivingTuesday! |
Dear Friends of Rosie's,
As I look around at our beautiful sanctuary and happy animals, I'm deeply grateful for a dream that has come true. I started Rosie's in order to rescue farmed animals, educate our community, and advocate for a more compassionate world. Thanks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters, we are making a big impact.
This dream isn’t mine alone. It’s yours, too. Rosie’s was specifically opened in a residential neighborhood near Washington DC to build community and be a place for families and friends to come together and care for animals. Whether you live nearby or visit us online, Rosie’s is your sanctuary. It is place of hope and joy. It is a place for change and dreams.
And this dream also belongs to the animals - who all desperately needed a safe landing and a chance to live a healthy, fulfilling, and long life.
This GivingTuesday, you can help us make an even bigger impact. Thanks to a generous donor, your gift will be matched up to $10K! Every dollar you give will be doubled and create real change.
No donation is too small, and we so appreciate your help in reaching our $20K goal.
Warmly, Michele |
#1 on Our Wishlist: A Tractor! |
Believe it or not, we've been running the farm without a farm machine. But in order to dedicate more of our time to tending to our residents, taking community members on tours, and doing advocacy work, we would LOVE a tractor of our own! Jason has identified the tractor of his dreams which will enable him to more easily do chores and compost, and technically we are almost halfway to realizing this dream! No donation is too small and every dollar is doubled! Help us buy a tractor ››

Have You "Herd?": Advocacy and Outreach |
On November 20th, Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary was honored to host the HSUS and several legislators to announce a new bill called Cage Free Maryland, which would ban the use of battery cages and require eggs sold in Maryland to come from cage-free hens.
This bill will increase animal welfare and lower food safety risks. Millions of hens in the United States egg industry are confined in small battery cages where they are not able to flap their wings, walk, perch or perform basic or natural behaviors. These conditions are not only cruel for the birds, but these cages have been associated with higher rates of salmonella, a disease that can be deadly. Cage-free systems reduce salmonella risks. There are currently 2 million egg laying hens in Maryland. This is the bare minimum of what we need to do for these birds.
This Bill is being sponsored by Sen. Karen Lewis Young and Del. Jennifer Terrasa. The coalition of animal protection groups supporting this bill are: Animal Equality, Animal Legal Defense Fund, ASPCA, Compassion in World Farming, Farm Sanctuary, Maryland Votes for Animals, Mercy for Animals, The Humane League, Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary and The Humane Society of the United States. We were also honored to have a representative from Congressman Raskin’s office attend our event at Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary.

Compassion Corner - by Sanctuary Manager Jason Bolalek |
Hello everyone, I’m Jason Bolalek, the farm manager at Rosie’s. I wanted to take a moment to share with you the core values that drive me and the work I do here.
For me, rescue work involves shedding light on the truth and exposing the reality to the public. It also entails grappling with the emotional challenge of leaving behind those who could not be saved. Coping with this pain often involves finding solace in spending time with those who have been rescued and witnessing their joy.
In my view, advocacy plays a crucial role in rescue work as it aims to address the lack of awareness among the majority of the public regarding the cruelty they inadvertently support. By raising awareness, we initiate thought-provoking discussions that challenge the prevailing beliefs and social norms.
In addition to rescuing animals, rescue work also encompasses the liberation of humans from all forms of discrimination, oppressive, destructive, and unhealthy belief systems that often ensnare us. That’s why I am committed to providing essential support systems for individuals who are seeking transformative change.
This is work, but it is not a job. I live Rosie’s. ❤️
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported and mentored me throughout my journey: Joanna Zelman at The Dodo, Sisu Refuge, Iowa Farm Sanctuary, Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary, Critter Creek Farm Sanctuary, Mockingbird Farm Sanctuary, Off the Plate Sanctuary, and Uncle Neil's Home. I am truly grateful to all the individuals who have played a part in making Rosie’s a reality, specifically Michele and Craig Waldman. Lastly, I want to extend my thanks to all those who are accompanying us on this remarkable journey.
