Feeling the Love in February! |
Every day at Rosie's is like Valentine's Day as we celebrate and promote love to all kinds. Our residents constantly feel the love of our caring staff and volunteers, the wonderful groups of people coming to tour the sanctuary, and of course their tens of thousands of online fans. Our social media continues to grow exponentially as people across the globe fall in love with the individual animals we share. Our mission is to build a more compassionate world, and we need your help to do this lifesaving work. Thank you for any and all support you can provide—we couldn't do it without you!

Recently, one of our TikToks spotlighting baby Dani and Sunshine enjoying the fruits (quite literally!) of sanctuary life went viral, garnering nearly 300,000 views. Among the many, many people touched by watching the girls was a kind reporter from Newsweek, who reached out and wanted more information on our brave little "jumper" pigs. We are thrilled that Dani and Sunshine can shine a light on the horrors of the reality of animal agriculture, and that so many people have connected with them as smart, sweet, sentient creatures. They continue to be incredible ambassadors for compassion! Read the full article here ››

Have You "Herd?": Advocacy and Outreach - by Michele |
Learning about the plight of animals trapped in animal agriculture can be depressing and demoralizing. I have personally found that taking action can provide hope while helping animals and the planet. These are a few things you can do to improve the lives of farmed animals:
Embracing a vegan lifestyle. This can significantly benefit both the planet and animals. The meat and dairy industries are major contributors to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and water pollution. By choosing a plant-based diet, individuals can reduce their carbon footprint, conserve water resources, and help reduce the environmental impact of industrial agriculture. Going vegan is an ethical choice that aligns with the well-being of animals. Industrialized farming involves confinement, overcrowding, and inhumane conditions, leading to immense suffering. Adopting a vegan lifestyle promotes compassion by rejecting the exploitation of animals for food which will contribute to a more sustainable and humane coexistence with our planet and all of its inhabitants.
Support animal sanctuaries. You can support sanctuaries in several ways. You can volunteer your time at a local sanctuary. Rosie’s Farm Sanctuary, for example, offers volunteer orientations for people interested in hands-on help. You can also find other sanctuaries near you on Google. Another way to help sanctuaries is through donations. Many sanctuaries are 501c3 non profits and rely on donations to continue their work. You can also help sanctuaries by sharing their information and social media with your network. This increases the visibility of their rescue work, which greatly helps raise awareness about farmed animals.
Advocacy. You can help animals through grassroots lobbying, following local laws and groups that try to make it better for all animals (check out DC Voters for Animals), share your thoughts about animal welfare through social networking, write to your local legislators about supporting animal rights’ bills (such as Maryland’s SB 193/HB 357 for Cage Free Maryland).
I know that sometimes it can all feel hopeless and overwhelming. There is so much suffering that it feels impossible to make an impact. But, I truly believe that each of us can make a difference in our own way. I encourage you to stand up for what you believe in. In my experience, getting into action made me empowered and hopeful. Thank you for reading this and for trying to improve the lives of animals. Check out our How You Can Help Page. |
Compassion Corner - by Sanctuary Manager Jason Bolalek |
As we celebrated Machu and Picchu's first birthday in February, I wanted to take this moment to reflect on my heartfelt connection with these adorable little boys and share my thoughts about our special bond.
Nurturing them from their early days with bottle feeding has forged an extraordinary bond, and witnessing their unique characters flourish has been truly fulfilling. It was a bittersweet moment when the day arrived, marking their transition to independence and no longer being able to cradle them in my arms. Picchu, displaying a streak of independence, showcases his determination to prove his growth. Meanwhile, Macchu, more expressive, wears his heart on his sleeve, vocalizing his desires through repeated behhhs for treats. Picchu, on the other hand, demonstrates a discerning palate when it comes to snacks, while Macchu eagerly devours anything offered. Despite their contrasting traits, the one constant factor is their unwavering affection for their beloved mother, Maggie, whom they remain close to at almost all times.
I consider myself so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of Machu and Picchu's journey here at Rosie's. Observing their remarkable growth from infancy to blossoming little boys, witnessing their integration into a flock, and the formation of bonds has been a remarkable experience. To see them embrace the process of learning, evolving as individuals, and discovering their place in the world while also nurturing a sense of belonging within their family is nothing short of a priceless gift.
I'm excited for the years ahead, filled with joy and pride, as these two twins continue to bring laughter and happiness into my life. I am also excited to share this journey with our loyal supporters and followers, who have become an extended part of Rosie's family. |

This quick, easy, and protein-packed meal is from a friend of Rosie's, Lenora, who runs a whole-food, plant-based blog called Curly Red Cafe. Be sure to check out her site for more great recipes and resources!
Creamy Roasted Red Pepper Pasta This amazing, creamy sauce is versatile, full of flavor and ready in just 10 minutes. You can serve it over pasta, as shown here, or over potatoes, pizzas, veggie burgers, salads, bowls, and more! Ingredients: 1 cup raw cashews (unroasted) 1 15-oz jar roasted red peppers 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 2 cloves garlic, smushed 1/2 tsp salt, Kosher or sea 1 medium lemon, juiced small bunch fresh parsley, divided 4 cups Pasta, cooked (high protein gluten-free is best) Instructions: - Soak cashews overnight in water. Or, boil for five minutes in water and let sit in water for another hour. Drain water. - Add cashews and all remaining ingredients to a blender, set aside some parsley sprigs for garnish. Blend until smooth and creamy. Taste and add more salt if necessary.
- Heat briefly in microwave to warm and mix with your favorite pasta. Garnish with chopped parsley. Enjoy! Notes:
The soaked cashews add creaminess to this sauce. They must be raw, and soaked enough to make them soft and blendable.
Green peas would make a nice addition to this pasta dish, as well as adding more protein. You can also sprinkle on some vegan parmesan or nutritional yeast for a more cheesy flavor. |
