Miracle, lovingly known as Mira, came to us from a research facility where she was part of studies on reproduction. When she was unable to get pregnant, she was deemed no longer useful for their experiments and marked to be sent to auction—a move that would have likely led to her death.

Thankfully, a courageous young veterinary student stepped in and advocated for her release. Through these efforts, the research facility agreed to let Mira come to live in sanctuary instead. We named her Miracle because that’s exactly what she is—her rescue is nothing short of miraculous.

Hundred of millions of animals remain trapped in research facilities across the U.S., and very few ever get the chance at freedom. Without the compassion and determination of that vet student, Miracle would have remained just another number in the system.
