Sunshine is a brave little soul. She is what is referred to as a “jumper” pig, meaning she literally jumped from a Smithfield Pork transport truck that was moving her from one location to another. She was a month old, and they were taking her from the cage where her mother would have nursed her and her siblings, and was being transported to another area to be fattened up for slaughter. But, Sunshine had different plans. She jumped from the truck going 60 miles an hour onto a highway in North Carolina, where a farmer found her and turned her into a wildlife rescue. She was eventually taken to Sisu Refuge, who knew we were looking for a friend to accompany another jumper pig they had for us. It was kismet. Sunshine and her new sister, Dani, became instant best friends. We absolutely adore them and are so happy they were able to escape their prior lives and come live in sanctuary with us.
